So you’re thinking of applying at Ƶ? There are plenty of good reasons to consider becoming an OCU Star, so we thought we’d list out 10 of our favorites!
In no particular order, here are some of the best things about being a student at Ƶ:
1. Keeping it in the family
One thing we love about OCU is our tight-knit campus community. When you become an OCU Star, you become part of the OCU family. That means students looking out for one another and faculty and staff who do all they can to see each student succeed. OCU really is a home away from home for many of our students.
2. Super scholarships
Just because we’re a private, nonprofit university, that doesn’t mean we don’t try to be competitive on price. In fact, almost all of our first-year undergraduate students receive some type of scholarship based on their high school GPA. High-performing students who major in Arts & Sciences, Business or Nursing can receive up to $13,000 a year in tuition scholarships. That equates to $52,000 off tuition over four years!
3. Over-Committed University
Anyone ever tell you what OCU really stands for? The inside joke is “Over-Committed University.” But we don’t take that in a negative light! There are so many clubs, student orgs and activities for students to take part in, they can’t help but become overly involved. We wear this badge with pride!
4. From graduation to Broadway
Some of the best performing arts students in the nation call OCU home. We pride ourselves on preparing the best musical theatre, acting, dance and vocal and instrumental music students in the nation. In fact, many students step right into Broadway or touring casts right after graduation. And you get the chance to watch those Stars in action right here on campus!
5. It’s easy to root for the Stars
Ƶ is an athletics powerhouse. In fact, we’ve claimed more than 80 national championships and proudly boast the fact that we’ve one at least one title every year for more than 30 years. What’s even better? OCU students get into all home athletics competitions for free!
6. Two words: Lip Sync
Ask any alum what they remember most about their time at OCU, and more than likely you’ll hear about Lip Sync. That’s our annual Homecoming tradition that sees teams of students competing in dance and choreography set to hit music. And it’s not just for performing arts students. Anyone can take part, and the performances always bring the house down!
7. It’s a great day in the neighborhood
OCU sits right in the middle of Oklahoma City’s historic Uptown 23rd and Asian districts. That means there is no shortage of dining, shopping and entertainment just a short walk from campus. Looking for great pho or a hot concert? We got you!
8. Academics galore
Did you know Ƶ offers more than 70 undergraduate majors and minors? That’s a lot of options! We have a variety of Business degrees, huge choices in Arts & Sciences, Nursing tracks for our future healthcare heroes, and of course our Dance, Music and Theatre programs. Wherever you want your career to go, we can help put you on the right track.
9. Home sweet Ƶ
Oklahoma City is a true city on the rise. Did you know it’s the 20th-largest city in America? We’ve got pro sports (GO THUNDER!), touring Broadway shows, a world-class art museum and a host of James Beard-nominated restaurants and chefs. What’s not to like about Ƶ?
10. Get ready for the Olympics!
Ƶ was recently announced as a Satellite Village for the LA28 Olympic Games! Athletes and national team officials competing in softball and canoe slalom will call the OCU campus home during the Games in the summer of 2028. What an exciting time to be an OCU Star!
